Eugene Jang
Assistant Professor, Rochester Institute of Technology
Eugene Jang is an Assistant Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology. She earned her PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. She was also funded as a Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies (KFAS) fellow during her doctoral studies. Prior to USC, she completed her BA and MA in Communication at Seoul National University.
Her research interests span health communication, digital and social media, artificial intelligence (AI), science and technology studies (STS), social network analysis, and computational social science. She is particularly interested in exploring how AI can be leveraged to advance health and social equity. She employs a mixed methods approach that integrates computational and qualitative analyses.
Jang’s dissertation, Online social support discourse structure and social media affordances: A comparative analysis of Twitter and Reddit’s Long COVID communities, received the 2026 Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award from the International Communication Association. She has published her work in peer-reviewed journals such as Health Communication, International Journal of Communication, Mobile Media & Communication, and Social Science Computer Review.
